Friday, August 05, 2016 -- Month #17 - Week #77 - Day #536 - Las Flores, Villanueva, Cortes

"Heavenly Father hears your prayers, loves you, and He knows your name."
- President Henry B. Eyring
Today we had Weekly Planning in the morning because we had the conference yesterday, and we had lunch, and then reorganized all our area book because the elderes had given us a whole bunch of old records of the area from the past 4 years or so. So we went through, sorting everything by location and calling everyone to see if we could visit them or if they existed and if the phone number was right. So we had some success with that, and we'll be working with all the records this week trying to find people. Lots of work to do!
Tropical Storm Earl - we were all ok, just received TONS of rain!!
And then we had some good lessons, and then all of a sudden at about 6:00 pm a huge storm hit us! The rain came down and the floods came up... so we hightailed it to the nearest member (about 15 mins away) and took cover. The paved streets turned into rivers of mud and objects past the ankles, and the cars passed and splashed us with water up to the hip...yeah. And then the dirt streets were just pure river current and sinking in mud. And the lightening was really close and the thunder really loud, and poor Hna Vasquez was a little frightened. But we made it safely to Inesita and Marilyn right as the lights went out, so they gave us dinner and got us dried off (because we were completely soaked) and we talked for a bit, waiting for the light to come back and the rain to go down a bit so we could walk over to our house (about 2 blocks away). So we finally made it home, and we're ok! We were just sort of surprised by the rain because the day was clear and sunny and we were in a cita, and then all of a sudden everything went crazy.
All the lovely mud left from the crazy rain storm...

But apparently there's people that think that when someone dies, we keep their body in a classroom in the church. They don't know why or how, just that we do that, apparently. And we definitely don't do that. Sometimes we have a service in the church where the body is present, but then the family goes to the cemetery to have the funeral and burial. Sometimes people think really weird things.
